I'm 21 years old and have one credit card, but it only has a 500 dollar limit. Would it be possible to apply for a credit card that has a limit of 1000 dollars? I desperatly need a car. I've been saving money, but its VERY difficult when i spend most of it on a cab getting to work in the first place. If you think its possible, could you name the credit card?

  1. Is there anyway you can carpool or rideshare? You can pay the person you drive with and it'll be a fraction of what you would have to pay for a cab.

If it's less than 3 miles, consider a bike, or even a scooter.

Does the company you work for have a credit union? Can you get an advance? Show them the math and they might consider it.

    Hope it works out.

  2. Any major credit card carrier (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) can issue a card with a limit of $1,000.  They can issue a card limit of whatever they want.  Have you asked your current credit card provider for a limit increase?  That way you don't have to apply for another card.

I personally wouldn't finance a car purchase on a credit card (if that is what you plan to do - sounds like it from your post.)  The interest rate will be much higher then a standard auto loan.  Have you tried applying for an auto loan?  If you can't get approved, can you get a co-signer on a loan?

  3. Some companies let you ask for a credit line increase.  You fill out a form online or through the mail and they can approve or deny you.  Usually if you've made payments on time and are good about keeping a balance they will increase you rather frequently.

If not...I hate to promote CitiCards, but I got a credit card with them I think at age 18, and started at about 1,000 dollars or so.  However, I know you say you don't care about the interest, they started me at almost 20% interest, which is OUTRAGEOUS.  So...you may really want to consider the interest.  I also have Bank of America, and the interest is half that of CitiCards, and they gave me 5,000.  So I would say check around and apply for a couple.  You don't want to apply for too many or it can hurt your credit score if you're rejected a lot.
