I was shopping at Kohls, when my friend Erin shoplifted a ring. It was only worth $20. She had been telling me about how she shoplifts from places all the time with her brother, and she said that we should do it. I joked with her about it, but told her no. When we were in the store, we were looking at some cheesy diamond rings. I tried some on, bit didnt find any that I liked. I saw one that I knew she would love, so I handed her the box, whith the ring in it, and walked away, to keep shopping. When I was looking at clothes, she took the ring out of the box, and put it in her pocket. I dont know where she put the box, but an LP officer found it. As we walked out of Kohls, two LP officers stopped us, and took us into their office. They went through our bags, and checked receipts for the things I had already bought. They said I was free to go, but they kept her. They called the police, and she was arrested. I didnt take anything, but can i still get in trouble for being there with her ?

  1. No you can not, if you were suspect they would've arrested you at the time. though if i were you i would'nt be shopping with her at all. because another scenario could've been that the store security mistaked you as a lookout. your friend next time might not be the only one going to jail. trust me it happen to a friend of mines daughter. until her friend confessed that she was not a part of it, she had the same troubles. a theif is the worst kind of criminal, deceiving, and untrustworthy they will steal from you if they want what you got.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               kingsalassiei

  2. Yes, you could have been arrested together with your friend, for being an accessory to the crime.

However, consider yourself to be lucky that you were not arrested together with her.

Both of you could very well have been under observation for some time in the store.  The fact that you were actually innocent to the act, was probably due to their surveillance/observation that they decided not to arrest you along with your friend, plus the fact that you did not have the stolen item in you possession and that you had receipts for all the items that you have purchased in the store.

  3. yes you could be if was a witness to it and didn't say a thing you can be considered an accomplice

but if they let you go you might get lucky..lets hope your friend wont mention thjta you knew her intentions

  4. Wrong category!!

But yes you can.  You could be charged as an accessory.  Turn her in to your mom or her mom

  5. Perhaps not this time but let this be a lesson to you.  Do not go to any store with anybody that you know is a shoplifter.  If Kohl's had filmed you handing her the ring box with the ring in it, then of her putting the ring in her pocket, they would have arrested you right along with her as an accessory to theft. That is called Organized Theft and has higher penalties.

Shoplifters have been known to drop merchandise into their children's pockets or purses of their innocent friends who accompany them.

Remember, if you walk in slippery places, you are sure to slip.

  6. Chances are that you are free because they let you go. But don't shop with her anymore because it might not go so well next time. They could very easily decide that you were a helper.

    .

  7. Yes, depending on how you view this you helped her commit the crime. You handed her the ring, she could implicate you to get a lighter sentence.

Do they have a videotape of you handing the ring to her ?

  8. Quick answer is yes.
