Im looking to buy a 12" visonik subwoofer and run it in my truck without a separate amplifier. Below are the listed "Amplifier Specifications" from the website.

Rated at 225 watts

Gain control

Variable crossover frequency from 30 to 200 Hz

  2. No. Your head unit's amp cannot produce that kind of power.

  3. i would go with a bigger amp because u mite plow your amp if the speaker is over 200 watts more than the amp is

  4. The only way a sub would work is if you head unit produces enough wattage to move the sub without an amp. This mean that you head unit would have to push the RMS on the sub and i have never seen a head unit with that capability.

    So i would say, no you can't power a sub without an external amp. But if you shop around (http://www.techronics.com) you could find an amp with those specs for a good price.
