Is it possible for my cat's tail to be broken?

Today I noticed something a little off about my cat's tail. Normally, her tail is very straight and curves a little when she moves it. But now, at the end of her tail it completely curls, and seems limp. It doesn't bother her when I touch it, and she still moves it...but about a good 5 inches is limp, and when its placed on the ground at appears a little crooked. I don't know if I'm worrying over nothing, it just seems strange. Is it possible that my cat disconnected or broke her tail?

  1. Yes, your cat's tail can be broken and it isn't uncommon. Running through a doorway as someone is shutting the door, or scooting under the garage door as it comes down, are two common ways in which cats get their tails broken. If it were disconnected, she would be in pain but if it is broken - especially if the cord inside the skeletal structure was crushed - she wouldn't feel any pain.

  2. Another possibility is that your cat is sick.  When cats are ill, especially when they run a very high temp, their tails can become limp and other joints can also seem stiff or limp.

Please take her to a vet, by the time cats show any symptoms, there are almost always very ill or injured.  Cats hide pain very, very well.

  3. It's sounds as if the tail is infact broken, this sometimes can seem like there is no pain involved but it does hurt.  Take the cat to the vet and see if it needs to be amptutated, not all cases lead to this extreme and will not effect the cat at all.

Please have the cat checked at your vet asap!

  4. It sounds like nerve damage as if someone stepped on it.  Get it to the vet.

  5. Yes. You can talk to your vet about amputation or getting pain medication for the time being, but it's like a broken nose or toe in humans...you just have to let it heal on it's own...sometimes crooked.

  6. yes it could be broken and u might want to get her to vet b4 it gets worse
