In my (humble) opinion.

Telekinesis: just about believable.

Telekinesis existing, but most of the world not knowing about it/ not beliveing in it: Not realistic.

So its not that it couldn't be true. Its just that if it was true, we'd know about it by now.

the average person uses less than 10% of their brain.  I believe that through vast training a person can uses more than this 10% and start to do things we never dream... like move things with their mind.

If you ask some of the New Age thinkers *anything* is possible if you just open your mind to the possibility.  To the rest of us down here on planet Earth, we must carefully consider a claim like TK and examine it through experimentation.  If the phenomenon has no evidence then really it's nothing more than an empty claim.  Sure, it's *possible* that TK exists, but what is this claim based upon if not evidence?  Do you really want to live in a world where all it takes for something to *possibly* exist and deserve serious consideration is for someone to simply state that it is a fact without providing any evidence in support of their claim?

Many claim TK is real, but not a single one has demonstrated this phenomenal and world-changing ability.  What does that tell you?

Is it possible?  Well, in the sense that science has not proven (more accurately, cannot prove) that telekinesis does not exist, then yes it is possible.

However, the scientific method is not something that can be used to prove a universal negative for anything. For example, science cannot prove that invisible gnomes aren't right now having a jamboree under my front porch. But do you think this is likely?

In the same way, telekinesis is not very likely either. Intense efforts for many years have been made to attempt to demonstrate this ability, but unlike all other branches of actual science, the results obtained so far are inconclusive and irreproducable. The best results so far are the PEAR studies which attempted to show the influence of telekinesis on random number generators, but those results have not been reproducible, the experimental methods used have been harshly criticized as  not being very well controlled, and the protocol has been described as pathological science. Scientists today place no stock in these results and it remains now only an odd footnote in the history of pseudoscience.

So to sum up, the telekinetic movement of objects is within the realm of possibility but extremely low in probability. In fact,  NOBODY YET has actually demonstrated the ability to move an object with their minds, though many a paranormal enthusiast has been fooled by simple magic tricks.

Telekinesis is now called psychokinesis (PK) in the scientific research literature. While no one can levitate their friend, start fires or throw cars the ability has been demonstrated to a statistically significant degree. It was demonstrated by Rhine Research Center (formerly at Duke University) in the 1930's. (link below) on dice (causing more of one number to come up then would appear by chance)

It was most recently demonstrated by Princeton University through a program called PEAR (link below) for the past 27 years with random number generators.

It was also demonstrated by physicist Helmut Schmidt with radioactive decaying particles his work and the work of other can be found at the web page for the Parapsychological Association (link below).

Skeptics dismiss or attack this work but few have criticisms that are valid enough to get published in peer reviewed science journals where the actual research is published.

This ability was also shown in the former soviet union by Nina Kulgina. Her demonstrations are dismissed by skeptics that have yet to replicate her performance under controlled laboratory conditions while being observed by scientist.

Daniel Dunglas (D.D.) Home was said to levitate and play musical instruments without touching them. He was never caught as a fraud. However, controls were poor in his day and he may have simply been the greatest magician who has ever lived.

There are no currently-accepted scientific mechanisms for how telekinesis would work, and no currently accepted experiments that have satisfactorily demonstrated telekinetic abilities.

So a normal scientist would say "probably not".

And *I* would say "No" as well.

However - it is still *possible*, as we (definitely) do not understand everything about the universe or our own bodies.

to answer amplifyurbeauty - we do actually use *all* of our brains, it is just that *at any one time* roughly 10% of the neurons in it are firing. If much more fire, we undergo an epileptic siezure.

Doesn't look like it, no.  Plenty of people have claimed the ability, but when they were tested, it turned out they were cheating.  No one has ever been able to demonstrate this ability when all possibility of cheating was taken away.
