  1. i hope so he wont be around forever

  2. 1.  Allow kronvall to develop into lidstrom 2.0.  He has the potential and the right mentor.

    2.  Keep drafting good 2 way defensemen, especially europeans in late rounds.   Teams gambling on Russian talent because of the lack of transfer agreement and old stereotypes are going to be rewarded down the road I think.

  3. Lidstrom is amazing.

  4. I think that Lidstrom is the best defensemen in the league and maybe to have ever played the game. The thing that you have to consider is how dominate of a defense the Red Wings have. When Scotty came to Detroit he changed the Red Wings style of play, and made the team defensively based. The Red Wings drafted good defensmen like Kronwall and Fisher, and spent more time scouting and trading for defense. Since Scotty arrived the Red Wings have had such a good defensive unit I don't think that missing one player would make very much of a difference. Every defensmen is good enough that it would be nothing for one of them to step up and take the role of Lidstrom, with not quite as much skill obviously. As far as the "C" I think Zetterburg would take that role, and do just fine. So yes the Red Wings would have won the cup without Lidstrom because of their defensive unit.

  5. Hi,

Yes, it is possible for the wings to win a Stanley Cup with out the Lidstrom. Yes they have helped the wings out in the past but they just won a Stanley Cup na dthey could and will win a nother time. The Lidstrom are very very important to the wings but with the wings belive in them selfs alot they will win again. You also helped the wings to win the Stanley Cup of 2008 because all you hockey fans chead them on went to there games and that is a big role in helping them win. So keep it up and they will win again.

Go red Wings you role you have my vote for the Stanley Cup.

  6. i didnt think it was possible for the Wings to win a cup without Stevie Y, and they proved me wrong, so yes, i guess anythings possible.

  7. Is it possible? Its as possible as Chelios staying in the league for another year. Yes its possible. Especially with this team. Anything is possible

Lidstrom however, is a huge asset to Detroits team. His blue line run, and extrordinary defensive effort, is the reason that makes our forwards so strong in front of the net. He's so precise with everything he does, and classy at that. He doesn't go out of his way to give dirty checks, and is respected. Not just by his players, but opposing team-mates as well. (Which makes it tougher for players to go after him, especially when he has possession of the puck). He is a good leader, especially because he learned from the best. You can't get anything passed Lidstrom. But, Minus him, it would definitely be a disadvantage, but at the same time, you'll get other guys to step it up more so.

Detroit has enough talented players on their team, to the point that their third and fourth lines, would be able to play most of the first lines of any other NHL team. When you think back to '97 - present, all SC were won with Lidstrom in the line-up. And here's how i look at it now, If the Wings could win the cup without Stevie...they can win it without Lidstrom.

**King- Lidstrom was only injured for about what 10 days? and it wasn't just him, it Was Kronwall, Rafalski, Holmstrom, and Stuart. Our best D-mans were out.

**LoL King- Its ok i know your heart was in the right place :P

    ***Thanks Subhuman lol

  8. No,in my opinion right now they can't win a cup without Lidstrom.

They sucked when he was injured in the season. They were like 2-7-1 or something like that.

When you lose a key player your chemistry starts to slowly widdle down. Then when he comes back you have to work your way back up again.

  9. I've always thought the backbone of all the Cups was Nick Lidstrom.  Sure Yzerman's leadership and talent was great, but Nick has been able to shut down some great players in the playoffs.  I think as long as Lidstrom is playing on the Wings, they will be a favorite for winning the Cup.  They also will keep winning or coming very close to winning the President's trophy every year.  Once Lidstrom retires, looking at the young players in the organization, the Wings should be good for a while and be contenders, but they won't be a "lock".  I think they will be up and down during the regular seasons when he is gone.  Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, Filppula, and the young talent in the minors will be able to win a Cup I'm sure, but there is no doubt that the reason Detroit has been good for the last 16 years is Nick Lidstrom.

With that being said, I think Nick has been a legitimate candidate for the Hart Trophy in many years.

If Pronger can win the Hart with 14 goals and 48 assists for 62 points with a +/- of +52, then why not Lidstrom.  That same year Lidstrom had 20 goals and 53 assists with a +19.

The one thing going against Nick for the Hart trophy is that the most important things he does for the team go unnoticed.  He is so sound defensively and makes everything look so easy, that it is hard to see how difficult it is.  No one makes the plays he makes with his stick.  Sure he is not the most physical of defenseman, but that doesn't hurt his game at all.  It just translates into 1252 of a possible 1280 games played.  That's 97.8%.  And most of those missed games were sitting him out the last two or three games of the regular season to rest him for the playoffs, usually because they locked the top seed way early.  Meanwhile Pronger has played 940 of a possible 1114 games.  That's 84.3%.

  10. The Red Wings are a very well-balanced team. They have some good young talent, and some experienced veterans who know all the ins and outs of the game.

Niklas Lidstrom is a very big part of this team, but I don't think he is absolutely essential to win the Stanley Cup in years to come.

I think the Wings' will win at least one of the next three Stanley Cups.
