  1. If you got an infection, its not the metal. An infection means that the piercing was not healed when you put the new earrings in. If only one ear got "infected" then its most likely not an allergic reaction because you had earrings in both ears. Its possible to be allergic to metal, copper being one of the most common of the metal allergies, thought gold and silver allergies are much much rarer.

  2. ones at claires are cheap material, probably something like nickel or copper (with paint over it). stick to earrings made with gold or silver. if you do use costume jewelry, only keep them in until night, then take them out, clean your ears and put in other earrings.

edit: if you got an infection, there is a great possibility it IS from the metal. i got my ears pierced with nickel earrings and i had a reoccuring infection until i changed them!

  3. cheap metals can cause chemical reactions with your skin. I'd suggest getting better earrings. You can't be allergic to metals though.

  4. im allergic to metal myself. i can not wear belts because the buckle gives me a rash. i cant wear earing because the hole never heals and it hurts unless its pure gold

  5. yes it is VERY possible that you are allergic to the metal...my aunt can not wear jewlery unless its silver or gold...no metal stuff...it highly possible change back to your other earings before the infection gets too serious...best of luck
