i know there are such things as solar powered cars. would it be possible to have a wind powered car? when you drive don't you have a lot of air moving past? why couldn't you use it to help power a car.

ps, i know it would look really weird to have a windmill sticking out of the roof of your car.

  1. Quit trying to get something for nothing. Whatever amount of energy U got from the wind charger would cause even more drag on the car.

  2. The air is not passing the car, the car is passing the air due to its forwrd motion.Think of the traffic jams on a calm day.

  3. Travel by Surf  Board is possible on slopes. To use Poles to propel yourself along is possible. Something like Skis.   Something like a Rickshaw may work  if power by foot and strength were done.

Go Carts would be best. Wooden box. Something like a Galley  . Strange isn't that were people eat on ships.

Structure like a bicycle and kite. Sails. Bicycle is best. People may regard as crack pot though.

  4. i know what youre saying its good to save the environment but i think it would be impossible for that to happen. solar powered cars cost over a million dollars i think that scientests wouldnt waste the money to make that especially when there still trying to master the electric car

  5. Well, solar powered cars are still impractical and extremely expensive, and they're likely to stay that way for the foreseeable future (at least, cars receiving direct solar power will be; electric cars could get solar energy indirectly through the power grid).  Wind powered cars...they would probably be cheaper, but I just don't see them being possible.  Having a windmill on top of the car would seriously hurt the aerodynamics of the vehicle, and having wind turbines inside of your car (like behind the grill where wind is coming in) would take up a lot of space; possibly too much to also include an electric motor to turn all that electricity into forward momentum.  If we could ever make powerful turbines on a scale that small, though, then it would definitely be an interesting idea for the second generation of electric cars.

  6. check out the link... not wind.. but compressed air... say hello to the future

  7. Nah, the oil companies will prevent this. They will lose billions in revenue if cars did not run on any fuel. They will bribe the government if they have to. Sorry, but, this may never happen. Our government is very corrupt

  8. it probably would take years to develop the technology to make the car wind powered, but omg what a great idea, it needs no fuel and runs on wind, this should be a goal not a dream, you better start working

  9. Because the drag of the wind turbine would require more power to overcome than the wind turbine would generate.

The only really use of wind turbines for powering transportation devices are aircraft Ram Air Turbines which are emergency power sources for when all engines fail and all they do is provide just enough power to run the hydraulics and basic electronics while adding a bit of extra drag if they pop out (and even then the power they provide is only barely enough to control the plane).

As for solar powered cars, they're just stunts and are unlikely to ever be practical as everyday transportation.

  10. Even if you did have a wind powered car with a windmill atop it. you would only move at a very slow speed.  You would need a monstrous windmill in order to push the tons of metal that makes up a car.  Think about blowing a small piece of paper across a table.  It takes a lot of breath the get that ball of paper over the edge.  Practically impossible.  Next time you post on yahoo answers don't get high first.

  11. The solar powered car is basically a 3 or 4 wheeled bicycle, with no safety features, no radio, no AC, no heat. You MIGHT if you built it very light and limited the load you might have something that could drive, but you wouldn’t want to have an accident in the thing.

“when you drive don't you have a lot of air moving past? “

You are passing through the air the air isn’t going past you, but a long time ago there were some people who put sail on a car and used wind power to move the car, yes it looked silly, the picture I was from the 1940’s I think. It worked as long as the wind was behind you.

  12. OMG this is sooo funny.  I love the idea and I love the picture in my head too of the windmill on top of the car.  lol  I also think the comment that Mr Henry S said is sooo funny, "Think of the traffic jams on a calm day."  lol   I love 'green' humor.
