If i became an 'overseas' registered pharmacist in Australia, can i study medicine while working ?

I just have got my 5 years pharmacy degree from Egypt and i am on registering in Australia as a pharmacist. My study was in English.

Which school of medicine can i admit to ? and can i admit directly without any bridging courses, and if not, what would be those courses?

I have searched at many sites but couldn't get a clue.

I will be sincerely thankful for any answer.

thanks in advance.

  1. As a pharmacist myself, I would call any School of Pharmacy and ask for their International Dept.  They should be able to point you in the right direction.

  2. it really comes down to the school you attend. what kinds of programs/ international studies does your shcool offer?

  3. Do not know about medical schools in Australia, but if they are like most, you will not have the time to work and go to medical school. Back in the old days when I went through, a 500 page reading assignment was common, and the reading did not cover the same material as the lectures that day. Hard to put in a day's work and keep up with school.  We had a couple of guys try, neither made it.

Some of the Pharmacy courses may not be accepted by the Medical School. Be sure you have the basic Pre-med curriculum complete. Probably a good idea to present your transcript to the Medical School and find out which courses they will accept.

I have a patient with a PhD from Egypt- working packing coca-cola cans because they will not accept her academic credentials at the local University.  I suspect  she will get it straightened out eventually, but you should know that degrees from elsewhere are almost always viewed with some suspicion.
