  1. no, AMD is caused by degeneration of the retina more common in older people.  As we get older things begin to break down or age.  its also called Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD)  how old are you???  


  2. Gina is correct, true ARMD is not caused by an infection but from degeneration of the area of your retina known as your macula.  There are some factors that are thought to contribute such as a family history and smoking although they do not have to be present.  

    There have been some good studies on ARMD known as the ARED study and findings have shown certain vitamins and minerals to be beneficial.
