Question:

Is it possible that I blew my head unit?

i was installing a Pioneer head unit i just got yesterday

it worked for a little bit but i noticed the speakers were going in and out but the subs stayed on

i found that the red ignition wire was the problem so i messed around with it

the power got to the head unit and the subs but not my normal speakers

after messing around with it, it just stopped working

(by messing around with it i mean re-twisting the copper together and stuff)

it went on and off if i touched the wires together, but the speakers didnt

but now all of a sudden the head unit wont even turn on

i checked the car radio fuse and the fuse on the back of the head unit and theyre both fine

is it possible that i blew my head unit?

and if so, whats the solution?

  1. sounds like it.take it to a stereo shop and checked out. it might be something simple

  2. if it has a detachable face, there is probably a reset button on

the head unit behind the face plate.

Look in your manual.  If power was connected and then interrupted, it probably just needs to be reset.

I have had a couple head units that needed a couple of buttons

behind the face plate pushed in a certain sequence to power on.  Theft device..

did you ever get sound out of the speakers or only movement??

  3. OUCH! You might have touched the wrong cables to the wrong terminals and YUP...that might have blown your headunit! Have a professional look at it...when you spend that much money on a unit...spend a little more to get it installed right. I hope it turns up workin!

  4. NOOOOOoooOOOOO

NEVER EVER EVER PLAY WITH WIRES WHILE POWER IS RUNNING THROUGH THEM!!!!!

my guess is you fried a few things my friend

it is VERY possible that the internal amp is fully blown!!!

I suggest trying to return it... hehe

    what? ive done it before???
