Question:

Is it possible that a blood transfusion can make a paternity test negative?

A couple of years ago I met my dad for the first time. We had mouth swab tests done and they came back negative. A week before my dad had the test, he had brain surgery and blood transfusions. My mom swears up and down that he has to be my dad, but I've been questioning it. My dad passed away 2 years ago, can any new testing be done even though he has passed? I would just like the truth and closure. I could still have a father out there. Thanks for any help!!

  1. the swab tests epithelial cells, not blood cells, so no, there would be no effect from transfusion. I think you need to talk to your mom again.

  2. DNA is not affected by bld transfusions.

Your mum needs to search her brain better to be able to give you the identity of your biological donor. Push this issue hard. It is YOUR life, your 'dad', your feelings and it will ALL be too late if your mum dies and if she takes this secret into her grave. Good luck.

  3. Most likely no because they are swabbing for DNA. A blood transfusion has no effect on DNA.
