I've been taking Topamax for 3 weeks now starting at 25mg a day and each week adding 25. It worked extremely well at the 25mg week but as I add more mg It just gets worse. I have an appointment with my doctor next week. But I was just wondering if anyone knew why it would get worse as I increased the dosage? Thanks

  1. I've learned through experience that each person is different and has different levels with these type of drugs. That is why your doctor is looking for what is right for you. The most important thing is to let your doctor know what happened when you starting taking more. If you can not wait for appointments when problems happen call your doctor and let them know. They might tell you to skip a night or something like that. If you can not communicate with your doctor, find a new doctor...

  2. sounds like your body is saying 25 is enough

    however im no doc

  3. it is like that in many cases;  you may use the dosage which is suitale for your system

  4. It depends on what you are getting treated for:  if you get seizures and increasing the dosis causes you to get more seizures, then you should stay on what you are(the 25mg)until you see your doctor.  If you take them for migrane headaches and they get worse with higher dosis--same thing, stay on the low dosis until you see your doctor.  It really is a medical thing that no one can decide for you but your doctor.  Sometimes medication has to be tried this way to see what works best for you......

  5. Hi. First, you don't have to wait for your appointment, call your doctor before making any changes to what was prescribed. The physician will be able to tell you whether what you're experiencing a typical when starting this med or whether the decrease is the way to go. With some medications titrating up to the optimal dosage is necessary to gain the most benefit. You typically need to titrate down as well. There is alot about Topomax in the internet. Just type the med name into your browser and you can learn a lot. But please do not use the knowledge to attempt to manage your medication. Good luck!
