A son of a relative of mine behaves according to his mother as if he comes into puberty. Sudden mood swings, anger, lethargy, nervousness.

Is this possible that a boy that age would behave like that due to puberty?

I have not a clue.

  1. I doubt it is puberty. I have twin boys that are 13 and they have started puberty around age 12. The first signs were physical such as pimples and pubic hair growing. They just had quite a growth spurt and are growing like crazy now. I haven't really noticed any changes in their personality or them being lethargic or anything. I would look into other things such as could something be going on at school that is bothering him or something like that. I really doubt itis puberty yet.

the females here who say they were an early bloomer....well it's different for girls. Girls can start puberty as yong as 9 but it is less common for boys to do that. Most boys don't start puberty until 11 1/2 - 12 1/2 years old.

  2. girls can start puberty at 8!

boys usually go a few years later than girls, i noticed my son started 2 years after my daughter. she started at10, him at 12.

    it could be definately possible.

    not common but definately possible.

although i didmt know boys got mood swings, ect.

i think it sounds like more of a personality thing.

  3. Average age for first signs of breast development in girls is about 10.5 years. Average age for first signs of testicular enlargement in boys is 11.1 years.

  4. I have known of girls that started their cycles at 9 and 10 so I'm sure a boy can go through puberty early too.

  5. yep -my daughter is 8 and life is evolving for us.

  6. you are descibing a typical 9 year old. But it is possible he has started puberty but 9 year old boys can be moody

  7. definately. my friend started having her period when we were only eight years old. her biological mother (she was adopted) had had her at 11 years old. so, yes, i think its' possible.

  8. Yes, I myself was an "early bloomer". I began puberty around 9 years old. Kids are different like that. All my friends didn't start until they were around 13 or so. Just talk to the boy. Maybe its not puberty, maybe something's up in his life.

Its hard to believe kid's have their own lives, but they do and they take what seems like trivial things to us very seriously.

Just let him know he's loved and can discuss anything, whether its puberty or problems with his family.

  9. Yes my son was at 9.

And he was depressed a lot, acted out sometimes and seemed aggravated...

I took him to the pediatrician... he went in to see the doctor alone, at my insistance.. then the doctor talked with me and asked "have you ever heard of puberty?"... and i said "he is ONLY nine years old!"... the doctor giggled.

I can giggle now, too, because my son is 31 years old.  Wasn't so funny back then

    best wishes.

  10. Yes. My best friend in Middle School was shaving twice a day at 11. He had started puberty at about the same age as your relative.

  11. i dont bealive that these changes are due to puberty.  i think its more psycological, maybe this boy has something troubling his soul, but just dont know how to voice it out.

if its purbety, he would be showing other signs by now like, sweaty, armpits, beard, broudingof shoulders, and the like.

  12. Those aren't signs of puberty, not at that age.  Something else is going on.

  13. its not possible and my idea is that he needs to see a doctor

  14. yes, with all the growth hormones that are in food nowadays. i know girls who start their periods at 8, so why can't boys start puberty too. you cant stop someone from growing up

  15. I started my period when I was 10. If girls can start puberty that young or younger so can guys, although it is probably not as common for kids to start puberty this young it can happen
