  1. I'm afraid that you're confusing two similar terms. "Conservativism" and "conservationism" are two separate movements.

    - ConservaTIVism is a political alignment. Conseratives typically favor restraint with regard to law-making and bureaucracy, i.e. small government. Conservativism can also refer to a tendency among the public to feel sympathy for tradition and religion, and suspicion about innovation and science - political conservatives and cultural conservatives are often the same people, but don't confuse political philosophy for public attitude.

    - ConservaTIONsm is carried out by social movements, government bureaucracies, as well as private sector corporations and NGOs. The main goal of conservationists is to protect natural landscapes, animals, and ecologies. Conservationism is popular across political alignments, and both liberals and conservatives support different kinds of conservationist goals.

Now you've got those ideas straightened out.

As far as global warming goes, most of the world and most of the scientific community accept that global warming is both real and anthropogenic, or caused by humans. There are, however, factions of people, who are suspicious of science, and who reject the idea of global warming based on the authority of powerful conservative politicians (with financial interests in polluting industries) and a vast minority of scientists who work for the politicians' financial interests.

Thus, people who are *against* global warming are almost uniformly politically conservative. Even though, most liberals and many conservatives who have a genuine appreciation for conservationism understand the need for governments to take action on global warming and to pursue conservationist goals in general.

  2. Your question is provocative and not that easy to answer.

Conservative also means "keep things as they are" and "welfare is a curse, let them go out and work at anything and not sponge off those of us who have the money" and "keep prayers in the schools".

Liberalism does have its place as the "Reform party", a piece of the pie for workers in industry" since no product can be made without them, assistance for those who are unemployed, so as to keep families together and prevent crime.

Conservatism in the U.S.A. has come to mean close alliance with "right-wing extremists" and "Faith-based social assistance"

both of which are no favoured by the MAJORITY of the population.

The best form of government in the is a "Benevolent Dictatorship" but this too has its drawbacks. It does work in SINGAPORE where corporal punishment (the cane &whip) are still administered to citizens who break the law. However in America wise voters should favor "middle of the road" administrators, decent men and women who reward those who work hard and yet feed the poor and try to educate those at the bottom of the social ladder.
