i think i am training correctly as i suffer from no post work out muscular soreness and from no signs of over training. also i make good gains in mass and strength.

but i operate at high intensity for between an hour and two hours, i work in sets of between 2 and 4 and reps varying depending on the exercise 2 sets reps of 4-6 , 4 sets reps 8-12. i do 4 exercises on average for each muscle . can anyone either in the bodybuilding circle or with more knowledge than average joe please help??

  1. It doesn't sound like overtraining to me. If you're making good gains and not losing strength, it sounds okay. Overtraining usually has to do with the frequency of the training, rather than what you do per session. Most bodybuilders will take a day off to get complete rest. Most fitness trainers will recommend getting a full 24 hour rest between workout sessions and at the very least, 6-8 hours of sleep a night for complete recovery. When you train, you're actually breaking your muscles down. Growth occurs during your rest and recovery period.  Not giving yourself adequate rest between sessions is counterproductive and is as bad for your body as not working out at all or eating that McDonald's burger.

If you don't get complete rest and allow your muscles full time to recover, it can be bad for your health in the long run, as you'll wind up running your body and its systems down. You might actually start getting weaker and start losing body mass the more you train if this happens.
