Question:

Is it possible that the sea level rising could be partly attributed to displacement from things we 'dump'?

I was sitting looking at the water bridge in Germany thinking about the displacement of the water in the bridge when boats cross it. This led me to start thinking about all the ships/boats currently in commission in the world.that would be displacing the ocean and perhaps contributing to the sea level rising. I know that for the most part it can be attributed to global warming but it must have some effect? Disregarding all the rubbish that's been dumped into the ocean over the years.

  1. No.  The combined surface area of the oceans is on the order of 400 million square kilometers.  We would need to dump over 3*10^11 cubic meters to raise sea level by even 1 mm.

  2. Your brain has a very low spacial conception.
