Is it possible that wind power would be able to energizer a car?

i.e. if there were millions of small miniature fans that are used in wind power were on the car; could the car be powered by them?

  1. The more practical solution to use wind to power a car isn't with small fans, but with big ones - at least for the time being. Large wind turbines generate electricity, which can be stored in a battery. That battery could be your car's battery (direct) or it could be used to charge your car's battery system (indirect).

    That's probably the most likely wind-powered car in the near future.


  2. I thought of that too... but it is unlikely. The dynamo works far better in production of electricity than the wind energy. The above ans is also correct, the wieght will increase.  And for most of the time, in cities wind energy is very little due to obstructions and hence if the car is not already running, there is little use of the 'fans' (turbines)

  3. No. If what you mean is a car powered by the wind that it creates by driving, not likely at all. The car would be too heavy, and what you are talking about is perpetual motion, which is impossible wherever gravity is. What you are talking about is a machine that generates more energy than it uses to generate, which is impossible.

  5. The drag coefficient would be too great.  Turn the propellers of the fans on their sides, so they look like water wheels, a direct air induction system, and it might work to keep the battery charged as you drive along.

  6. the problem is that each of those miniature fans would also need generators attached to them.

    Car do have fans attached to them now, but they do not work on wind power, but are either powered by a fan belt, run off from the motor, or by an electric motor attached to the fan.

    It would seem more logical that you would get more production from a 2 watt solar panel attached to the car, or better yet built into the roof or hood of the car for less wind resistance.

    and yo can buy these on E bay for 25 to30 dollars.

  7. wind power would be converted into electricity. the problem would be the added weight of the fans. car manufacturers are still having trouble with reducing the weight from the batteries that are needed to power electric cars now. best bet would be to have a wind turbine at home and generate your own power to charge your elec car. you can even sell unused electricity to the elec company.

  8. True, but since you will be driving, it makes wind anyways. It might be made sometime in the future.
