My periods are usually 29-30 days in between each other (I'm usually due in the 8th of every month). Last month my period came early, (on the 4th) and lasted 12 days (so not normal) but i went to the doctors and everything was just fine. Now i have been tracking my discharge to try and determine when i am ovulating.... the chart said on the 19th through the 23rd...(something like that).. well the discharge told me around the 28th i started to see a difference... has anyone else had this problem? Is it possible that you could ovulate around 10 days before your period is supposed to start?

  1. yes

  2. My best friend had irregular periods and it took her for years to get pregnant again.  She tried to track her ovulation times but it never seemed accurate.  I think you can very well ovulate 10 days before your period.  People that have irregular periods also have irregular ovulation cycles.  If you want you could buy one of those ovulation kits to see just when your body decides to release the egg.

  3. It is possible to ovulate anytime.

  4. Yes, it is possible, though not common, to ovulate that late. (Do know that sometimes women who regularly ovulate that late in the cycle will have a too-short luteul phase -- they have trouble getting pregnant because their hormone levels drop before the egg has a chance to implant.)

  5. Yes, but this also means you have a shorter luteal phase and it will be harder to get pregnant.  Go check out the charting FAQ at http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ for more info on charting, ovulation, etc.  Good luck!

  6. It's possible to ovulate anytime during your cycle.  Those online calenders, books, and magazines that say you ovulate in teh middle of your cycle are all based on average.  Don't chart with discharge because that is not very reliable.  I would use ovulation predictor kits. You can buy them at walmart and that way you atleast know for a fact when you are ovulating.  I ovulate very late in my cycle, and I got pregnant within four months the first time, and the second time was a surprise, but my son was only five months old when we got pregnant.

  7. No one can tell you when you are going to ovulate.  They would only be guessing.  That goes for ovulation calendars as well.

It is a myth that ovulation occurs on a certain day.  The day of ovulation can change each month.  Anything can affect ovulation- stress, illness, travel, holidays, exercise, any thing different.........  All woman are different as to when they ovulate.  Even if two women have the same cycle length they could ovulate on different days.

The norm is that woman ovulate 10 to 16 days prior to the day their period starts.  It is different for each woman.  If you were to ovulate less than 10 days before your period, you would have a luteal phase defect and need medication from a doctor to make pregnancy possible.

In order to determine when you ovualte, you must learn about and observe your body.  In order to know when you ovulate and when you are in your fertile phase, chart your waking temperature and observe your cervical mucus.  You could also try using OPKs but they do not work for everyone.

Read the book: Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. The book explains your cycle, charting and how to get pregnant. It is a great book and a must read!
