Is it possible to Recommission the RMS Queen Mary?

Would it be possible to sail the RMS Queen Mary once more? If so, has it been proposed? How much would it cost to make the Queen Mary seaworthy again? Also, would it generate enough revenue for an Ocean Liner to run?

  1. It would be cheaper to built a new ship.  There are no engines.  The ship could not meet current safety standards (which is why the 38 year old QE2 is being retired).  The QM started sailing in 1934, 35 years before the QE2.  The QM was handed over to the City of Long Beach in 1967  - two years before the QE2 began sailing.  The QM has been owned by the City of Long Beach longer than the QE2 has even existed, and the QM was already 33 years old when the City of Long Beach got her.

    Like the much newer QE2, the QM was saved from the scrap yard.  Let her float in peace in the LA Harbor.
