Is it possible to acquire French Nationality?

Question

My father's birth place is Pondicherry which is a former french territory and my mohter is from Tamilnadu. They got married before independence. i.e. before 16 August 1962. Some persons told me that there is a option to acquire French Nationality for my family. But till date both of my father and mohter are not acquire nationality. I had all the certificate and necessary documents. Kindly suggest me. Thanks

did i understand you correctly , and your parents did NOT acquired French nationality at that time ?

usually people who were born into a french territory,can acquire french nationality .

now you may just want to ask anyway

i cannot quote you exactly :but this is what i have found:

A child born in France before January 1, 1994, to a parent born in a former #  French overseas territory # prior to its acquisition of independence, is automatically French. The same is true for a child born after January 1, 1963, to a parent born in Algeria before July 3, 1962.

and that applies for all french territories .

the law about french nationality is a bit complicated , but i think that should answer your question .ps: the best thing to do is to go to the consulat and ask ;

but if your parent did not acquired french citizenship at that time ? than you will not be able to get french citizenship.
