Is it possible to apply for Canadian immigrant visa while waiting for approval of US nurse immigrant visa?

im a nurse who is affected by the US retrogression on immigrant visas. im leaving for canada in a few week under a working visa. im planning to apply for a canadian immigrant visa if the US retrogression is not lifted after a year. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Yes but if caught you can lose both. You can not immigrate to 2 countries at the same time (they get upset by people who try for some reason).


  2. yes, you're able to apply for canadian immigration. but once you get both, you'll have to choose which one you want to keep. it's not legally possible to keep both at the same time.

    EDIT: canada allows people who are in the country on a work visa to apply for immigrant visas by themselves (not having any petitioners) as long as you have been in possession of the work visa for 3 years. but if you can't get one (i don't see why not), then you need your employer to petition for an extension. haven't heard of it happen though since people would just apply for permanent residency.
