Is it possible to be a captain of say a 757 or 767 with a major airline at 5ft 6 inches?

At 5ft 6 inches is it possible to be a Captain of a major US Carrier medium long range aircraft such as 757, 767, A300, etc.

  1. No.  That is too low for the plane.  Once you sit in the c**k pit, you are much higher than 5' 6".  None of the c**k pits sit that low to the ground on a 757 or 767.


  2. Check out helicopters the smaller you are the better. Weight and fuel are a big concern with helicopters. The smaller the person the more the company can pack on or burn less fuel.

  3. Of course (chuckles) i am an 747 pilot and its classified by the manufacturer if you think an aircraft can be a different because of its hight your wrong the type of aircraft is when the company wants to call it that

  5. Yes, you can be 5'6" and still be a captain. In fact, those cockpit seats are not very comfortable for people with long legs. The main requirement is that you can reach the rudder pedals!  A flight instructor at our school just got hired recently by an airline as a first officer and she is about 5 feet tall.

  6. They usually operate a great deal higher, but if you are very good and have flat terrain it is possible
