Is it possible to be a straight "Bear"?

This is a question I'm asking out of curiosity. If the term "bear" refers to a big, burly and hairy man in the homosexual community, than is it possible to be a "straight" (i.e heterosexual) bear? I'm wondering also how one refers to a man as a "bear"; is it self proclaimed, or is it at the consensus of others? I would like some insight, preferably from other "bears", straight or g*y.

"bear" is LGBT slang, hence you can have someone who fits the physical characteristics of a bear but happens not to be g*y however no one would really call them a bear. it's the same with other labels. you get cute blonde straight boys but no one calls them twinks cause they're not involved in the g*y community which uses this slang. generally if one fits the stereotypes of a "bear" then they could describe themself thus or be dubbed one by fanciers.

Yes.  I am one.  

I'm FTM and like girls..thus making me a straight guy.  Testosterone made me fuzzy.  :)  

My friends call me a cub though, because I'm "younger" than most real "bears".
