  1. My doctor had me switch to Flintstones with iron because everything else made me sick!

  2. I have taken prenatal vitamins while not pregnant, and they made me very nauseous... I couldn't figure out what was doing it, but I realized it was right after I was taking them everyday.  Make sure you are taking them with a meal, that is usually the best way to prevent the nausea.

  3. Some prenatal vitamins can do this to you, but it doesn't mean you're allergic. I take ones from Wal-Mart & turned down the ones from my doctor, simply because my body was already used to them and the doctor said it was totally fine. Your body has to get used to them, so a lot of the time, you can go a few days or weeks of being sick just until your body gets used to the vitamins it probably wasn't getting before you were pregnant. If you get used to one kind, stick with it, because you might have to go through it all over again! Good luck & congrats~

  4. Did u talk to her and let her know that u have been feeling sick from the vitamins? But it is possible to be allergic to vitamins.  I would call the doctor's office tommorow and talk to the doctor to let them know how u have been feeling and what's been going on. U not suppose to quit taking ur vitamins. So call tommorow as soon as possible.

  5. Something a bit like that happened to me. You don't have to be allergic - some of the prenatal vitamins can just make you feel sick! Have you tried taking them just before bedtime? That's what the package suggests if they give you nausea.

I tried Elevit at first, but couldn't tolerate the amount of iron in it. It left me feeling like I had lead weights in my stomach and I didn't want to move or exert myself in any way.

Blackmores have a lot less iron than Elevit but the other ingredients are pretty similar. They also have omega 3 for baby brain development, which Elevit doesn't. I tried taking Blackmores but the pills were too big for me to swallow (enhanced pregnancy gag reflex didn't help!). So now I'm just on folic acid and making sure that I eat (reasonably) well.

  6. There are lots and lots of different prenatal vitamins.  My doc sent me home with probably 15 different samples of prescription prenatals so that I could choose the one that's best for me.

If the one you're taking is making you sick. try another brand.   I have my prescription prenatals that I usually take...but if I'm feeling really sick that day I take an over the counter prenatal that I know doesn't make me sick.

Also...you need Iron, which is in your prenatal vitamin. But if you are also eating a fortified cereal or those pregnancy bars, you might be getting a lot of iron, which can make you sick.   I found that I was getting a triple dose of Iron. As soon as I stopped the cereal and the pregnancy bars, I felt much better. But keep taking your vitamins, and get a different one if you don't like the one you're on!
