Is it possible to be born completely blind?

I'm assuming it's very rare. If someone had no sight at all, would they need to attend a special school, or attend public school with special classes and teachers?

  1. Yes, it is possible, but rare.  Blind children tend to be educated in special schools.

  2. Some people who are born blind have light sensitivity some don't so I'd say it's possible.

You can become completely blind later in life aswell. A child near where I live became completely blind when he was about 4. He had to have his eyes taken out due to cancer.

They can go to either a special school or a mainstream school. If a child was born blind they'd have to learn how to read braille whatever type of education they pursued. The school the child goes to is most likely going to be the choice of the parents/guardians and will depend on a lot of things like:

is this environment good for my child

do I want my child integrated in to mainstream society from the beginning or not

how close is the school to my home

is it easy to get to

    etc.

  3. Yes, I say this with a certain because I knew a woman that was not only born blind but her eyes were completely white. This woman was born without any irises at all, not even an outline where an iris might have once been.

Edit: This woman also had a PhD in Psychology from UVA.

  4. i think it is possible, but like oyu said, rare, and i think  they might go to a special school.

  5. of course-many people that are blind today were born completely blind-

others have had minimal sight or lost sight due to illness/injury-

assuming there is no other learning disability-many students whoa re blind are in regular classes-they are given supplemental services such as Braille instruction and classsroom adaptations

students who are blind can get the services tehy need through a 504 plan-

they don'rt necessarily need to be in spec ed

there are a limited number of schools/classes specifically for the visually impaired
