Question:

Is it possible to be both a Navy and a Marine?

I was thinking of joining the Military and serving the country when I graduate. But.. I cant find anything to help me decide which of these two great branches I should join in. I'm currently in the NJROTC program and it's been great.

My real question is, can I be delegated a job where I can be both a Navy and a Marine?

How about if I want to be put in a medical field. Like (I'm just making this up, if there is one, cool) Navy Marine Nurse Corps?

I know I should talk to a recruiter about these things, but I want to hear it from people who have served each of these branches too. Please help me out, my time is slowly running out.

Thank you!

  1. That's wonderful that you want to join us in the fight to defend our country. However, the Marines do not offer any fields in the medical area.

As a Marine myself, of course I'd recommend the USMC. But, if medical is really where your heart is, becoming a Navy Corpsmen will probably be more along what you will enjoy.

  2. The first poster gave the perfrect answer. You can not be in both, but you can be a Navy Corpsmen. The Marines do not have medical personnel - they use the Navy's.

So you can be a Navy Corpsmen and volunteer for FMF (integrated into a Marine unit.

This is very close to being in both branches at the same time.

  3. No, I don't think you can serve the Navy and the Marines at the same time.

If you have to decide between the two, join the Marines. Sure, bootcamp is gonna be a living h**l there at Parise Island, but you will come out a much, much better person, physically, mentally, and, most importantly, morally.

And don't worry about not passing boot camp. Only 1 out of 5 people don't pass and usually those people are mega slackers, or just aren't physically fit for the Marine Corps.

  4. Navy Corpsman with FMF nec - that means you works for the navy but along side the marines. You are their "Doc" so to speak.

  5. hey we have the same problem i want to go to the naval academy but i don't know if i want to be a navy or marine officer

    good luck choosing

  6. If you went into the Navy and trained as a corpsman, the chances are good that you could end up serving in a Marine outfit as its medic.  The Marines are, administratively, a branch of the Navy.  The Marines do not have their own medical personnel, so the Navy supplies their medics.

  7. Go Navy and then join the FMF (Fleet Marine Force).

  8. No you can't be a Sailor and a Marine - but you can be a Nurse in the Navy and support both the Navy and Marines or whomever visits your medical facility. Navy Corpsman provide battlefield first aid to Marines but that rating is currently fully or overmanned.

  9. no.  you are one or the other.  the Marines only use Navy medical personnel., but you ARE a Sailor even if you are assigned to FMF.  .

  10. Simultaneously in Navy and Marines, NO. Its strictly one service at a time!

Navy does the Medical stuff for both the Navy and the Marines. request assignment for duty at a Navy Hospital at a Marine Air/ Ground facility.

    Either is cool.
