Is it possible to be good friends soon after a break up?

I just broke up last night, and he asked me if we could still be friends. I told him not right now, because I need to take sometime to completely emotionally detach from him first, then we can start over again as friends... do you think this is fair? To wait maybe a few weeks?

L:exi, taht was one of the most adult and intelligent and matue things I have ever heard from someone about this issue.  If you are friends after a time, so well and good.  You don't have to be; you ca nstil lbe  civil to each other and be acquaintences, but dont feelike you have to be deep friends .  You are on the right track girl.. congrats..  for what its worth, i'm proud of you for A) speaking to your ex as yo udid, and B) for having the courage to ask your questio  publicly.

well i just broke up with my boyfriend monday, and and ever since tuesday we have been texting and talking on the phone all day long and we plan to hang out tomorrow. so its completely back to normal for us.. but we were best friends before we started dating.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do for me and my ex...

But I have another really close guy friend and we were boyfriend and girlfriend for a little bit.

i think its about what u need if u need a few weeks before starting the friendship i think he should understand..

and this has happened to me before i have been best friends with my ex.. but sometimes u get to be such good friends with them that u realize how much u miss them and want to date again..

anything is possible i suppose.  however it might be worth while for you both to take a breather  for trying to launch a friendship

theres no such thing as friends after a break up he will try over and over again to win you back dont do it just move on
