  1. Millions of dollars in sensitive equipment and no security clearance?  I don't think that's possible.

  2. Everyone onboard an SSN or SSBN has at least "Secret" level clearance, with the exception of a handful who have "Interim Secret" clearance.  These few are normally CS's (Culinary Specialists aka Cooks), A-Gang (Auxiliary Division Mechanics) or other rates who are waiting on their Secret clearance but can still do their jobs with the Confidential/Interim Secret clearance they have. They are still being processed for Secret Clearance. Other rates such as Radio ET's (Radiomen), Missile Technicians (SSBN's), ST's (Sonar Technicians), Navigation ET's (Electronic's Technicians), some FT's (Fire Control Technicians), and all Officers have "Top Secret" Clearance. If you have had a felony, good luck with getting on a submarine. I am not saying it is impossible but unlikely. With a misdemeanor you most likely will be able to still get a Secret level clearance it just takes a waiver. Top Secret with a misdemeanor is also possible but is up to the individual approving the waiver.

  3. everyone there has at least a "confidential" clearance. It's no big deal unless you have some criminal or financial issues that would prevent getting one.

  4. No.

They have to train crew members to do a number of different jobs on the sub so everyone has to have at least a minimum security clearance so they can move about the sub to do those jobs.
