Question:

Is it possible to become a tennis pro if...?

I just turned 16 years old, and am fully ready to make at least 3 of my hours a day dedicated to tennis. Right now, I know all the rules, am passionate about it, and have a decent hand. The only problem that I might see is that I am 5'1, although that has not hindered my ability as far as I can tell so far. What do you all think? Any suggestions? Thanks!

  1. Of course it's possible.

My advice is to do as many USTA tournaments as possible.  You'll be able to get a ranking.

Keep playing and don't get discouraged.

Andy Roddick turned pro when he was about 18.

So, someday could be right around the corner. =]

and the guy below me, is totally wrong.

    don't let them discourage you

they don't even know your skill level

  2. Michael Chang is about 5' and he won the french open for the US when he was seventeen. I would say GO FOR IT!!! You can do anything if you put your mind to it.

  3. your height should not be a problem for playing tennis.

if you love tennis and have a passion for it, keep working hard and maybe some day, you will be a tennis pro.

I suggest you go out ofr the tennis team at school if you havent allready

  4. 1.) the people above don't know what they are talking about

2.) height DOES matter, especially for women. you need to be taller to be able to hit down on the ball, move, etc...being 5'1 makes it about almost impossible, sure, there were rare times when short players did well, but they had exceptional, and i mean exceptional footwork and talent

    3.) 3 hours a day...since you were 5 years old..maybe you could go pro..not now

4.) sorry, its not going to happen, by the time you are 16 you are either playing ITF and amateur events and on your way to playing pro tournaments

5.) women usually develop faster than men as far as pro tennis goes, so by 18 you should be on the pro circuit

6.) try division III college tennis

  5. I strongly believe that it's all about determinantion, passion and desire !!! I remember myself playing tennis eight hours a day  in a summer time ! I just could not get enough of it -))) You just have to love this game with all your heart !!! Good luck!
