Question:

Is it possible to bleach my black canvas bag white?

Maybe not pure white, but brownish or off white, like regular canvas. I'm not so much worried about how the color will turn out because I plan on painting it anyway.. but I'm worried about ruining the fabric. Can anyone tell me if this is a good idea or not? I already tried bleaching it wtih clorox but it did not do anything.

  1. Try Rit color remover.

  2. Bleach affects fabris differently.  You said it did nothing?  Then is must have some sort of variation that will not be affected by the bleach.  but, if you do re-try it w/100% bleach, be careful...it will most likely turn it pinkish, not a nice white/offwhite. If it is a thick canvas, it will probably not ruin the fabric itself, but bleach can weaken faric. You could also try sewing a large piece of white fabric (similar in texture) into the sides with a compliementary colored thread to make it look purposeful, then paint that.  You could line the handles/straps w/ribbon to help cover up that black as well.
