I want to know if it is possible to boil off the alcohol of an alcoholic drink. What I am hoping to have as the final product is the flavor of alcohol without the effect of an alcoholic drink... possibly to add it to something else. Is there a safe and easy way to do this or is this too complicated to do? Thanks!!

  1. yes. But only if you are using it for food/sauce purposes otherwise SACRILEGE!

  2. You can put any kind of alcohol, liquer or hard liquor in a recipe the heat burns off the alcohol.  So no alcohol in your food.

  3. Alcohol has a lower bioiling point than water, it vaborizes when boiled and burns off when torched. If I understand your question, you want that alcohol bite but not the alcohol. Not sure what you got planned but I don't think it can be done. There are things that may seem like that alcohol bite, real ginger ale, maybe.

  4. This can be done, but I'm sure it would have a negative effect on the flavor.

  5. You can boil or you can flambe.  Boiling takes longer and can alter the flavor in some types of liquors.  To flambe, heat the alcoholic liquid until warm, light the surface with a match (being careful not to burn yourself) and allow it to flame until it goes out.  The alcohol burns away and what remains is the flavored liquid.

    hope this helps

  6. Well, yes, when alcohol reaches a certain temperature the alcoholic effect is removed, just like in cooking, they use wine or beer and it's sure not to make the guests drunk. But as for keeping the taste, IDK about that.

  7. SACRILEGE!

  8. you can research the boiling point of ethanol on the internet... get a pot and a thermometer, and as long as it's just above that temp, you should have all the ethanol (the alcohol people use in alcoholic beverages) boiled off. It is important that the temp doesn't get too high, as other things may boil off.. If it reaches the boiling point of water, you will find that your now non-alcoholic beverage will get much thinker.... lol.

and if you were to catch the ethanol on the other end... heheh. I didn't say that.

The boiling off of alcohol should be done with much care, preferably not over an open flame and in a very large pot, so if it splashed when it boils, you don't have a nasty accident.

    Good luck and BE CAREFUL.
