  1. You know the size of Mars. Do a rough calculation of how much gas is required. This will give you an idea of the size of the project.

  2. It might be easier to steer a comet into collision with the planet.

  3. If we had the technology to build an atmosphere generator--we'd be wise NOW to use it HERE on Earth; a useful tool in combating Global Warming ( which the term, climatic change is best suited here ).

Mars terraformation would take....give or take 2 or so months....about 200 years--and that inculdes 24 / 7, weekends AND ALL holidays of work on the goal.

And don't even get me started on the co$t of such a project right now--when we got a Congress busy trying to protect their investment$ in corporate monopolies like celluar phone services and Big Oil; the same Congress that once tried to capitalize on the Internet (actually.....that's still on the backburner for now).

Mars terraformation isn't impossible to accomplish--it'd simply take a behemoth sized budget, scientific man power AND technological wonders that are capable of generating infinite amounts of power and might; we simply don't have any of that going for us now in current society.

  4. if you are meaning could we generate our on atmospere to substain life, then with the technology we have at the present i would say no that would have to consist of the right amount of molecules/hydrocarbons ect.

  5. Well, a mechanical atmosphere generator would certainly be well, well beyond our current capabilities.  One potential way of generating a breathable atmosphere on the planet would be to seed the planet with some sort of photosynthesizing algae or bacteria that could survive the rigors of the current atmosphere.  Of course the problem with that is that the planet currently is too cold for any life to survive on it, so somehow it would have to be warmed up before the possibility could exist.  One way would be to kick start global warming on Mars somehow, and it would presumably have the same effect as it has on ours, warming the polar ice cap and releasing both more CO2 and liquid water in the process, eventually turning the North Martian glacier into an ocean.  Of course this is all quite speculative and certainly not possible today or in the forseeable future, unless some kind of cataclysmic event such as a comet impact were to happen to the planet, kick starting a global warming period for us.
