I was considering doing some weight exercises/training in order to bulk up a bit. I'm vegetarian and so I don't eat meat. Will this affect my ability to 'bulk up'?

  1. Of course.

There are all sorts of vegan/vegetarian bodybuilders out there and athletes, and just those that have big muscles.  I'm a distance athlete, therefore am lacking in any kind of fat.  Everyone assumes it's because of my diet, but I was a meat eater before and was the same weight and fat content before as after...

  2. Being vegetarian does not mean you cannot bulk up.  Check these out:

  3. People who want to "bulk up" tend to consume a lot of meat in order to do so. The reason they get added muscle is because of the protein in the meat and the exercise/weight lifting they do. So, if you want a more muscular build all you would have to do is drink protein shakes, use protein powder in food, or take protein supplements along with exercise and a healthy diet. But, if you want to "bulk up" make sure you do NOT decrease your calorie intake too much because then you might end up muscle instead of adding muscle.

  4. As long as you get muscle-building protein from soy, milk/eggs (if you're "that" kind of vegetarian), and even beans, your muscles will get what they need.  You just have to eat more ('cause they have less protein than meats), and often combine them with other nutrients, so they are optimal.  Weight training, 3x/week for 45 minutes, will build muscle mass.  Good luck -

  5. Yeah. You can. You might want to study up though because it is definitely more complicated than doing it with meat.

  6. protein drinks and protein powders.

  7. of course you can, try protein bars and high protien meat substitutes.  lok at the morningstar stuff in the frozen section at you local grocery store
