Is it possible to buy a car using a joint checking account not being married in the state of MN?

A dealership says its against the law to use someone elses income to buy a car if they are not on the loan even if you are married.

  1. If the $ is for a down payment....just get a cashiers check from your bank with $ from the checking account...easy.


  2. In general a check signed by either person in a joint account is legal.  That does not mean the dealership has to accept it.  You can ask them to cite the specific law and you can look it up on the Minnesota state site. Where is the other person on the account?

    You can always try another dealership.

  3. And the dealership is correct.  Otherwise, I could buy a car using George Bush's income.  Who ever is lending their name to the income must be named on the loan.
