  2. I agree with Nickisbox..... be ready to stand in line for entrance into the Vatican Museum (your access to the Sistine Chapel).  Lunch time or about 1.5 hours before they close are the best times for shorter lines.  Or if it happens to rain.... you get right in ! (no one waits in the rain)  and there's smaller crowds inside during these times.

We did take a guided tour which bypassed the lines.  Our guide was great !!  And there was a lot of information he told us, that I would not normally have had !  It was easy to hear the guide because we had on headsets and he had a headset with microphone - and his English was good!

Be ready for wall to wall people inside the Vatican museum and then into the Sistine Chapel though.  It is supposed to be quiet in the chapel, but with that many people crowded in together... it's not possible.  But, the ART - it is breathtaking !

  3. Definately. Do seach the web about it and also read up about the entry requirements etc

  4. when we went in march, there were two options.  the sistine chapel is part of the vatican museums and all one ticket.  i believe the ticket to get in a do a self tour was between 10 and 20 euros.  the people offering tours outside the museum were asking 40 euros per person.  they did get you past the lines, but the lines werent that bad.  if you go the vatican around lunch time, the line is minimal.  be warned, it is not easy to go into the vatican and straight to the sistine chapel.  if it is busy, the lines wind going into it.  fyi...st peters is free.  if you go in the late afternoon there are no crowds and you might even catch an evening mass which only adds to the experience.  and, check the vatican admission hours and days - especially if you go on a sunday.  there is a certain time on sundays that the pope pops out the window to bless the crowd if he is there.

  5. Went Rome couple of years ago and don't remember paying to get into the Vatican or Sistine Chapel, just asked for a donation. Went at this time of year and there were lots of people but didn't find it crowded at all. Don't make the mistake we did and go down alleys looking for the Spanish Steps. They weren't signed and we stood at the top of a flight of ordinary steps looking down on to the Trevi fountain looking at a map for ages before realising that they were the actual steps. It is a fabulous city and we walked non stop for 3 days visiting everything we could and were absolutely shattered when got home but it was so worth it. Roman forum def worth a look too.

    Have a great hol!!!

  6. You cannot buy reserved tickets for the Vatican museums (Sistine Chapel) to bypass the lines. The only way to avoid the lines, is to book a tour.

Here's awebsite where you can do this
