  1. Yes! I've done this before. Why else would they have a phone number?

  2. yes it is, I dont know in which country or state that you are, but in NY if you dial 958 it will give you automatically the number either from a house or a public phone, try it

  3. Yes.

    Of course.

    Haven't you seen PhoneBooth?

  4. you sure can. the payphone jsut has to display the phone number on the phone unit. find one and call it with your cell phone to comfirm

  5. You may both be right.  In many cities, the ability to call a pay phone was disabled.  The drug dealers would sit in a phone booth and receive calls for their drug dealing.  Of course, it would be useless to trace a call to a pay phone.  To help reduce the drug dealing the ability of pay phones to receive calls was removed.  If you tried you just got a recording that that number could not be reached or something like that.  In some places you may still be able to call a pay phone, I'm not sure.

  6. You are lucky to find a pay phone around anymore, at least where I live. But in answer to your question, most pay phones do not allow incoming calls.

  7. You're both right.  It really depends on the phone and the location.  Some payphones allow calls for pages, etc.  Sometimes, especially if they're in a quiet environment (theatre, museum) they'll disable the capability to call them.

  8. your sister. ive done it before

  9. yes but some of them have the ringers turned off

  10. It depends on the pay phone and where it is located.  There are still phones that let you call them back.  I occasionally do this with my brother when his girl friend takes off with his phone. lol

  11. Yes, I've done it. I was at a campground with no cell phone service and no calling card. I would put a few quarters in, call my husband who didn't go camping with us, give him the number on the pay phone, and he would call me back. I thought that this would be a great idea and that I wouldn't have to pay the payphone for an incoming call, but it actually did its "please deposit "however many" cents" during our call. All payphones that I have used have the number on the phone right above or below where you hang it up.

Another way I know is because the hospital my mom stayed at had payphones in the halls. I had the number to call it, and she would make sure to be at it at whatever time we had arranged.

  12. if the pay phone is set up correctly, the answer is NO, you cannot call a payphone.

Payphone owners get paid for out bound calls, not in bound calls.

In the private owned phones, the ringer is disabled. Telco owned phones are becoming endangered species.
