Is it possible to call someone at the phone through a laptop for free?

I was just wondering... If I connect my phone line at my laptop, Would I be able to call someone? I think I need to install something or what......

If you want to connect your laptop, or PC, directly to a PSTN landline (not DSL Internet), then you will need a Voice/Data Modem installed in your laptop/PC.

Your PSTN telephone landline will plug directly into the Voice/Data modem into the port marked "Line".

Your regular telephone will plug into the telephone jack of the modem marked "phone".

You may need 3rd party telephone software to facilitate the handling of phone calling over PC.

You can call using yahoo messanger..depending on your internet plan it may be free if MB used is within your limits of usage

Your options are. Yahoo IM, MSN im and Skype.

All available for free.  But those are COMPUTER TO COMPUTER CALLing.

If you want to call to regular phone..you need VOIP service.
