  1. It is possible to pull in a bigger fish on 4-6lb mono, but until you are skilled at playing the fish, if a 14-18lb carp grabbed a hold of your line, your line AND rod would likely snap.

I don't know about the quality of kingfisher, never seen that brand here in the states myself, but I can tell you that Abu Garcia and Zebco are my two favorite inexpensive brands. There are better ones higher up the price line, but those two companies can provide you with all you will need as a beginner.

I think it would be a good idea to get a medium action rod and reel set and string it up with 10-12lb line for when you are targeting the carp in those areas. Definitely keep the lighter set, it will come in handy when you are in the mood to target Bream and other small fish.

Having these two setups will give you a good variety so you can target different types easier. I myself have a medium-heavy action rod with a baitcaster reel on it, strung up with 10lb line, as well as a medium action rod with a microspin reel strung up with 6lb line. I use the baitcaster to cast lures for Bass or Dip Bait for Catfish, and the microspin to cast corn and grubs for Bream. This setup works well for me.

I hope this helps. Tight lines!!

  2. I regularly use 4 to 6 lb monofilament line on a mediocre spinning setup for catching good sized carp. You just have to make sure your drag is working smoothly and set properly to about 1/4 strength less than the stated breaking strength of the line, and that you patiently fight the fish after hooking it.

  3. get at some 20lb. test or higher. That sould do it!

  4. 6 lb. line and this set up??? You are pushing it but I say go for it! Just don't try and lift the fish out of the water. Make sure your hook is really sharp and the drag set low. Most likely your line is gonna snap so be sure to use a wire hook that will rust out fast. Playing out the fish will take a while but it is possible. Personally I would respool with 10 lb. flourocarbon and even up the odds a little or as Laura suggested get a bigger rod for these fish. This way you can haul them in all day long. Tight lines!

  5. The reel moderate, your chances r good if u really want it so bad then u can do it.Try hooking one first cos with test 6 lb is very tricky for even those everage angler, set the drag first if test 6lb u must only tighten it by a quarter cos if u do hook one u cant afford to fight slow but moderate.Your reflex must be really sharp, when u see the fish jump, u must bow cos by doing this u r letting ur drag to work also immediately afterwards u must set it back its pressure to the rod partly by  u must b your rod to bout 45degrees,anything higher is to stop the fish from getting away cos the drag wont be smooth when u do that.all the pounds will be at the rod n the line's capacity now.lowering it more n more is to let the line out with drag at work.when its high the guide cant really release ur line properly due to friction n odd angle over the fish pulling angle. This is the last resort when u have nearly no option n if the fish decides to stop go back to the basic tension position 45.when u lower ur rod to the max n when u feel the line is bout to snap just free it n try to let some line out as fast as u could then lock it back, lower ur drag by just a bit to fight again.the way to really pull/guide the fish towards u is to fight it the opposite direction bit tilted cos when the stress/tension the fish will always curve inward/toward the shore.this is your opportunity to reel in by moving to that fish to get more line back.when u pull it in,its by stop reeling /pause n pull in with caution cos if that fish decide to head out u must let it go when tension builds up/snapping.also dont make jerky strong pull cos when u do that n the fish doing the same most probably its all over.remember u dont hav to stay put a place to fight,if u hav grounds to move around.dont panic but reaction/reflex must be high/fast cos when u hit something big with ultralite u must be really fast.
