Is it possible to change the region code 1 on an american dvd to region code 4 australia?

i have purchased a few american dvds latley (i live in australia)i can watch them on my dvd player it plays all regions but my father lives with me and has wanted to watch them late in the evening in his room but his dvd player does not allow region 1 code.

i have just downloaded the video to dvd programe so i can convert some files i had stored in my lappy and

it got me thinking is there a programe where i can

change the region code from 1 to 4 on my purchased dvds

or any other way possible that i can allow the dvd to play on his dvd player.

im not sure how this work or even if its possible

your advise would be greatly appreciated.

  1. You can't change the code on the DVDs, sadly.

    You can get the DVD player rechipped to play any region, it shouldn't cost too much.


  2. DVD's are read only and hard coded for region.  You can't change that.

    However, you have several options.

    Get your father a DVD player like yours that plays all regions.  

    Find out if your father's current DVD player can be converted to region free - some can be converted easliy by pressing buttons on the remote.  Others need actual modifications  in order to make them region free and that gets expensive.

    Make a copy of the dvd with dvd copying software.  Most dvd copying software have the option of making the copy region free which would allow your dad to watch the copy with his current dvd player.
