Without resodding. Can you fertilize with a different grass seed to eventually make your grass 100% different type over time?

  1. Sure. It is a lot easier if the old grass has a selective weeder to assist to remove it and which doesn't kill the newer variety. A lot of the seeding style grasses like rye can be removed this way, and replaced with running type buffalo grasses. If it is kikuyu, then that has a selective herbicide to remove it too.

  2. Depends on which is the more aggressive grass, and if there are any special needs.  For example, some grass does not grow well in shade, and if you have any shade, then the pre-existing grass would be more likely to stay put.

Some hybrids are very aggressive, and will replace an entire lawn... 'zoysia' grass is one of these types.  You can find them in garden catalogs, and the occasional newspaper, or rural paper advertisements.  With this particular type, you buy a qty of 'plugs', and insert them in your lawn...and they'll take over.

Without more information as to which grass you have, and what type you want, I don't think we can offer any more information.  You might try your local nursery, or landscaper for more information.

    Good Luck
