Question:

Is it possible to cite an opinion essay?

I have a professor who thinks it's possible to cite one's own opinion. Anyone know how to deal with this? I'm of the thought that since it's someone opinion, it can't be cited.

Thanks!

  1. Honey, everything in every History book and any other school book is based on some fact and some opinion. Just make sure that when you do this that you don't take a hard position on one side or the other and that you make sure that you also give counter opinions so the class can form their own opinion. Remember, teaching is partially about allowing students to develop their ability to form their own opinions.

  2. Sure, you can cite your own opinion essay, as long as you credit it properly.  It would then be left to the reader to decide how much credence such a citation deserves.

    All the best.

  3. Sure, and you can even back up your opinion with quotes from others, on both sides of your argument to support your opinion and help show how you arrived to have such an opinion.

  4. Most creative writing contains the author's opinions without citation. If you are citing a quote from something you have previously written then it is usual to name or identify the document from  which it came.
