  1. I saw this done.  Although now that I think of it, the kids were all potty-trained, so maybe it was 2 1/2 year olds.

Well, evryone whispers, for one thing.  the teacher on down. When  a child talks loudly, the teacher stage-whispers, "so and so, was that you I heard?  and then says, what should you do when you need something? "  The idea is that everyone whispers, and it works.

So now that the noise level is reduced, well, one teacher watched the kids, who went to shelves and retrieved fun objects on trays to sit down with to play with as long as they wanted, and then they returned them to the shelf and got something else.  Meanwhile, the other teacher was tking a small group of 5 to teach math, or a group of 10 to watch a puzzle being put together.  Meanwhile, the 3rd teacher was teaching 1-2 children to read.  These were 3 year olds who had shown certain behaviors that indicated reading readiness.

You need to go hang out in a Montessori classroom a couple of times to see what goes on.  That is what I did, and this is some of what I came away with.

  2. of course it is possible, does montessori not begin with 3 year ols anyway.

with children that are younger, you just simplifiy the activities you would do with the older children and through scaffolding the younger children will develop quickly and you can then extend their learning onto the montessori syllabus

  3. Absolutely!  Montessori combines ages anyway.  That's part of the philosophy.  They all learn from each other.  Go to the library and have the reference librarian help you find books on Montessori.  Also, go online and find websites.  Good luck!!
