  1. Yes! I've taken a 30' aluminium boat (with a Gold Licence) from Limehouse to Walton on Thames - no problems at all.  Don't go under the bridges with the bale of hay dangling beneath them.

Contrary to everything you are told, this is not a snack for horse-drawn barges!

It is foolhardy not to wear a life-jacket - I use the self-inflating variety.

Watch and obey the river police.

If you meet a large wake, drive into it.  Make sure your doors and windows are closed - there's a lot of water flying around sometimes.

There are also some very large ships on the Thames.

Should you have to go through any locks, the lockkeeper is in charge and must be obeyed at all times - your safety and that of others depends on him or her; you must turn off your engine and secure your boat fore and aft with a slipping rope so that you have control as she rises or falls in the lock.

    It's a fantastic ride!!

  2. Yes but it is very expensive to moor.  Or even to stop at a pier will cost you, and there isn't any piers you could leave the boat on, so you would have to moor up on a buoy - then you would have to get to shore  - so you would need to be picked up or you would have to swim.

  3. Actually the Thames clipper is a high speed commuter service betwenn Canary wharf and Waterloo..I'm thinking of checking it out sometime!

  4. So long as you have somewhere to moor the boat and have a licence from the British Waterways Board.

  5. Yes it is possible providing you have somewhere that you can dock the boat during the day (or have someone drop you off)

  6. The Port of London Authority (PLA) is responsible for ensuring navigational safety along the Tidal Thames.

You would have to find moorings.

  7. yes,

  8. I don't think so

  9. probably, top gear did something similar to that.
