A friend of mine is recently married, and they have been trying to conceive for almost 2 months now. They are going to keep trying until September, take a break, and then continue again in March. She doesnt want to see her doctor about medicine to help her ovulate (her doctor told her that when they wanted to start trying to see her and she would give her medicine to start ovulation) until March next year. She has been taking ovulation tests every day for the last two months and got a positive 2 weeks ago, but I heard with PCOS that you can grow the eggs until they are ripe but then they dont release. I dont want to see her get hurt from a BFN every month, so is it really possible to conceive naturally with PCOS, or should she suck it up and go to the doctor for the meds?

  1. very few women will be able to conceive with PCOS without meds...mostly because the meds help regulate her period and ovulation....other options however could be accupuncture or herbal meds to help her, but her chances are a lot bigger if she takes something like Clomid, you can ask an accupuncturist and doctors online for free and get advice from others who hace coinceived with PCOS, try this website, FertilityTies

    good luck!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Not all women with PCOS are infertile.  Some ovulate normally each cycle.  Some ovulate infrequently, but may have enough ovulatory cycles to get pregnant.

If she is ovulating, she has a good chance of getting pregnant without medical help.

  3. Trying for 2 months isn't that long, some couples can take up to a year to get pregnant.  With that said, however, PCOS can cause fertility problems and it is good she knows about it now.  It is true that women with PCOS can produce eggs but the follicle will never rupture and release the egg, it just forms a tiny cyst (or maybe a big one) on the ovary.

If she is interested in doing it naturally I would suggest reading this book on PCOS...it is incredible:

Pcos: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome : The Hidden Epidemic by Samuel S., Ph.D. Thatcher

You can get it here on Amazon:

I have PCOS and have been trying to conceive for 4 years with no luck.  Good luck to your friend!
