Is it possible to convert videos onto youtube with this type of camera?

It's a JVC and we got it back in 2002 or 2003..is there anything we need to buy? or what?

Yes... but since we cannot see the model, it is difficult to provide details.

If it is a VHS-C, then it is analog. Use the AV cables that cam in the box and connect to an Analog/Digital bridge. Pinnacle Dazzle if you only have USB on your computer - Canopus makes good ones if you have firewire.

If it is a miniDV camcorder, then it is digital. You will need a firewire port on your computer - if you don't have one, they are cheap and easy to add if you have available PCI slots (desktop) or PCMCIA slots (laptop) for Windows machines. Macintoshes have had firewire 400 ports for many years.

You can use the A/D bridge with the miniDV camcorder too - but the video quality will not be so good.
