Question:

Is it possible to create your own style of fighting?

I have been doing a lot of research on other top-notch fighters and other styles, and I have been able to create something new. But I dont know that it should be called a new system of fighting. Because other styles like muay thai, and kung fu were made for military purposes and this style was created by a 14 year old boy. The style works REALLY WELL but I not sure that I should continue making it.

  1. i've adopted eastern and western boxing, wing tsun, and muay tai along with brazilian jujitsu and my own ideas.

the best fighter is the one that replaces what isn't working with whatever works with him at the same time keeping technique.  it's both an art and a science

be proud of it, perfect it, teach it

  2. I have develop my own style after studying other styles for many years. That's what the Martial arts is about too.  A serious Martial artist will either teach his teachers style or his own; based on his MA experience.

It helps to have a black belt Certificate from another style for credibility but it is not necessary for not all styles give out belt ranks.

If you have skills keep developing them and teach it to a few friends until your able to have your own school.

As a founder of a New style i welcome you into our ranks. Keep up the good work, your a good role model for young people.

  3. no not really, cause ppeople learn from other people and watch tv to learn new fighting. just like dancing u have to learn from someone to do it. DDUUHHH

  4. 1st path. usually a person study and mastered at least one style, then, he realized that he can modify, adds, subtract some techniques, concepts to make it more efficient or more suitable for him and hence, he created a new style.

2nd path. a street warrior or a combat champion who has done extremely well on the real life and death battle fields over the years. He then, put it in theories, concepts, and teach people his style of fighting, a new style that is based on his combat experiences.

There is a saying that goes like this: "first you copy, then, you create". That is why most people master a few styles before they create their own style.

So, once you create your a new style of fighting, then, what?

Well, once you have workout all your techniques of defend and attack in all possible situations that you can think of, then, you train it until it becomes 2nd nature. Best to have a sparring partner to test out a few things. Next, you put your style to the test  on the battle fields or the street or tournament or fight against different styles to see how well your style is doing.

After every fight,, you analyze and evaluate the situation to see what you need to modify, what went wrong and what went right, how to make it more efficient and effective. (best to have dvd recorder to record your fights)

Fight with people your own age first, try different weight, size, height, reach, speed, power, then, you can make adjustments and modifications to your style or tactics to fight different people.

Sometimes your style may be lacking in some areas, then, you may decide to borrow a section from another style. Example some kung fu style borrow the foot works movement of another kung fu style.

If you keep on losing, then, it is possible that your style concepts is not working. or sometimes, it is you who do not have what it take physically to get the style to work. Example, you would not expect a wrestler to create a acrobatic kung fu style.

Your potential problem is that at the age of 14, you may not have the experience needed to analyze and evaluate combat situations. There are things that a 9th degree master can do, that you would not believe is humanly possible.  You need to gain a lot more experiences, learn a lot more techniques and principles behind the techniques before you create your own style. Otherwise, you end up wasting a lot of time, creating something that will only work for 10% of the cases.

That is why in china, the old days, people tested their style on the fighting platform, the styles that keep on losing would naturally disappear. The styles that keep on winning  the championships, obviously going to be popular. That is the only way to ensure the better and more effective styles survives.

Your goal should be to learn more from others, practice and train at 3-4 hours per day as most masters do. become a really good fighter, top fighter if possible, and then, adds your own techniques a long the way. when you created your own style, no one can doubt you because you are a champion, and the result proves it. Actions and result always speak louder than words as proven on the fighting platforms in china years ago.

  5. Every person creates their own style of fighting, every time they train to develop their abilities, or learn a new technique.

But the likelihood of actually inventing something new is highly improbable to d**n near impossible.  As someone else said, fighting has been around since the dawn of humankind, and there are a limited number of ways for the human body to move.

By all means continue "creating" your own style.  I think it's at the core of what Bruce Lee said about "keeping what is usefull, and discarding what isn't".  Just don't forget to give credit where it's due.

  6. you are taught a style or two or three how you apply it is your style..everyone is different. no two are the same exactly

  7. well teach to a view people and see how it work out

  8. It is amazing how many fighting styles were created during the 20th century and later. If you are creating your own fighting style, join the club of thousands upon thousands of other people. No one can really rip on you for it, since so many other martial artists and other fighters have done it. Usually, to have credibility as a fight style creator you have to have studied several different styles, gotten black belts in them, (or the equivalent of a black belt) and then combined the best aspects of all the styles you studied to form your own fighting system. Here is a small list of some of the thousands of martial artists who studied traditonal styles and created their own:

    Jigoro Kano-  Judo

    Morihei Ueshiba-  Aikido

Bruce Lee-  Jun Fan Gung Fu/Jeet Kun Do

    Ed Parker-  American Kenpo Karate

Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez -  Ukibudo

    Wally Jay- Small Circle Jujitsu

    Remy Presas- Modern Arnis

  9. The human body can only move in so many ways, and after years of study most all styles resemble each other. I frankly doubt that a 14 year old boy with little to no previous experience could create anything that out matches a system that was forged out of centuries of war. But if you really think that you (an undeveloped adolescent who goofs off in his back yard after school) take it out on the road.

They now have matches similar to UFC for adolescents. This would be the perfect venue for your style to gain public attention. Who knows you could be the next Bruce Lee!!!!

    NOT!!!

  10. well a kick is a kick and a punch is a punch different arts just focus more on stuff then others

  11. Awesome brother!!.... that's one more for us Independent Martial Arts Federation Charter members....climb on board the IMAF and come home for the big win bro. You gotta start some where might as well be with the IMAF dude.

  12. If you have truly discovered a new way, then you need to keep developing it, if only to find out whether it is a new way.

And if it is your "way" (and you'll find out what that means as you go), then it matters not whether it's new or not.  It's your way.

  13. Well if that is true and the 'new' style works as good as you think that go to a master of one of the styles that you have based your 'new' style on and show him and ask for his judgement on it. and hopefully you will get some really positive feedback on it.

  14. well when you get older or something go to a gym and ask people about it.

  15. Hi there

This ones a bit of a sausage question I'm afraid. Everyone is unique so in a way everyone creates their own style of fighting. The question is will what works for you work for someone else? Sadly it wont. For all the MMA arts clubs there are out there teaching this the simple fact is you have to learn on your own and find a combination that works for you. MMA gyms are teaching arts that are popular at the moment. A combination of BJJ and kickboxing may work for them but its not guaranteed to work for everyone else. Train for yourself and see if the shoe fits don't force your ideas onto others. Its up to the individual to find their own way.

    Fad arts equal fad profits!

    Best wishes

    idai

  16. "There is nothing new under the sun". People have been punching, kicking, and choking each other since the dawn of man. There are only so many ways to do it.  There are going to be haters that say you have to have a traditional foundation on which to base a fighting style; forget about those people. When the $hit hits the fan, everyone reverts to instinct. You can know hundreds of moves. Those are great to get you to the next rank or the next belt, but the simplest things will serve you the best. So go ahead, learn a few simple moves, drill them and use them. Teach them to others. Maybe you'll be recognized for it in the future, maybe not. But at least you'll know you did it your way.
