I'm doing a school assignment on orthopedics and I was wondering if this is possible, if the cast was made with fiberglass.

  1. use a hammer and a paint chipper. you can also just go at it with a cutco.

  2. its too hard

  3. um, no.

the fiber glass is too hard and you would end up cuttling yourself :P

  4. No, the saw they use to cut off a cast is made not to cut through anything, but the fiberglass of the cast, and the scissors they use to cut the soft materials are made to be used on people so they won't cut anything, but the cast materials.

  5. The doctor cut my fiberglass cast off with some type of snips. They didn't look all the different from scissors, except that the bottom part was sort of blockish and the part outside of the cast was sharp.

This has been several years ago, but I would say if you had a pair of poultry scissors...you know the type that come with a nice knife set and you use them to half a whole chicken? I have cut frozen chickens right down the middle with mine, id say they would without a doubt cut the fiberglass cast.
