Is it possible to day travel via train from Budapest to Vienna within a day? how much is the travel cost? tnx!

what is the estimated travel time from Budapest to Vienna via train? Planning to tour within the day - then head back to Budapest again.

Yes it's possible, it's only 3 hours travelling on one direct train and prices start from £32/$60

The best idea is to go to www.raileurope.co.uk and have a look for yourself...the site is really informative and has different travel options, i just booked some tickets for my stay in Italy next week.

The above poster is correct, Vienna is very close to Budapest.

We live in Budapest and by car can take two hours on the highway.Actually by car, it takes half a hour just to get across town to the expressway.

Take the EC at 7:10 from Budapest Keleti-pu, get to Vienna at 10:08.

Return in the afternoon or evening from Wien Westbahnhof:

dep. 15:52  arr. 18:53

         17:52 .....   20:53

          19:48 ....   22:53

You can also leave from Wien Sudbahnhof at

   18:40, arr. at 21:58, change in Gyor at 20:16>20:28

or if you want to do the night scen you can leave Wien Sudbahnhof at  3:12 to Bratislava, arr. 4:05, dep. 4:17 to Budapest at 7:03.
