I have a check that was given to me in payment for something and I need to deposit it in my account. The check is not made out to me, it's made out to my father, and he already endorsed the check. Is it possible to deposit that check in my account?

The bank where I have my account is Bank of America.

  1. since your father endorsed the check, you can now deposit it into your bank account.

  2. Yes all you have to do is sign underneath him on the back.  It will however be charged back to your account if the check is no good.  It may be a good idea not to use that money for 7 business days unless you are certain that the check is good.  Your bank may decide to put a hold on the check anyway since it is a two party endorsement.

  3. Since your father endorsed the check, yes, you can.

  4. If the check was made out to your father, endorsed and given to you, it is perfectly alright to deposit in your account. There may be a time lapse for the check to clear before you may draw funds against that balance.

  5. sometimes you have to have him put under his name "payed to the order of 'your name""

  6. Yes. You will sign the check under your father's name on the back. I don't think you can get cash from it immediatly and it will probably be placed on hold until the funds clear the other bank.
